BOSTON — October 19, 2009 — Ultra Electronics DNE Technologies unveiled its new PacketAssure iQ Series of Service Delivery Managers today at Booth #318 at the MILCOM 2009 military communications conference. The PacketAssure iQ Series is a family of high-performance assured switches, offering a unique traffic management solution that assures delivery of Real Time Services over a unified communications infrastructure.
“All Services of the US Department of Defense are working toward establishing Unified Communications with Real Time Services by 2012,” said Charles Reese, Vice President, Sales & Marketing at Ultra Electronics DNE Technologies. “While creating predictable, flexible converged networks is challenging enough, new priority applications and users are emerging on both secure and non-secure networks. This creates traffic management requirements and policies that outstrip the capacity of IP network routers, the skill level of technical staff and budgeted procurement dollars. Network architects are challenged to choose solutions that accommodate legacy platforms and support future network and interoperability requirements. PacketAssure iQ Service Delivery Managers meet this challenge.”
While many installed networks only have the resources to define priority and non-priority IP traffic, the PacketAssure iQ platform permits planners to define up to 1024 service classifications and policies, mapped to eight classes of service running over Gigabit Ethernet links. Even with congested tactical communication links, users will enjoy highly differentiated, predictable network performance with PacketAssure iQ.
A powerful Web 2.0-style graphical user interface and an array of interface modules allow networks to quickly achieve the benefits of unified communications with the people and platforms that are in place today. PacketAssure iQ supports the transport of T1/E1 and EIA-530 serial links with speeds up to 20 Mbps over shaped IP networks, and shaped IP data over serial-interfaced radio and satellite terminals.
With three modes of operation, DSCP, 802.1p and Custom, transmission technicians can adapt the PacketAssure iQ to networks marked with DSCP and 802.1p traffic classifiers in minutes. Network planners can use the PacketAssure iQ to define custom service classes, assign DSCP or VLAN tag values, and to redirect or block defined traffic flows using the intuitive “point and click” user interface.
Designed for reliability in harsh tactical domains, the PacketAssure iQ Series surpasses standard COTS equipment in all aspects of environmental resilience and system availability in the field. With an assortment of field-upgradeable, hot-swappable service modules and two distinct chassis sizes for scalability, the PacketAssure iQ Series enables migration from legacy networks to unified communications architectures at the network planners’ pace, transitioning existing assets only when required.
Pre-release evaluations begin this fall. Release 1.0 will be available in 2010, and will include the iQ1000 chassis (1RU) that switches up to 18 Gbps non-blocking, Gigabit Ethernet and high speed serial interfaces modules, operating software, documentation and accessory kit. Pricing starts at $16,000.
About Ultra Electronics-DNE Technologies
For over fifty years, Ultra Electronics DNE Technologies has provided communications devices to the US Department of Defense, Homeland Security and other government agencies. Ultra Electronics DNE Technologies manufactures networking equipment that economizes bandwidth and extends the drive distances of tactical communications devices. This equipment is used throughout the US Department of Defense and other government agencies to support the transition to IP networking, particularly in areas where bandwidth-intense network traffic is restricted by a single satellite or radio signal. Ultra Electronics DNE Technologies manufactures the AN/FCC-100, the TAC Multiservice Access Concentrator series, PacketAssure Service Delivery Managers and NRZ/CDI/FOM converters, including the CV-MCU2 converter/multiplexer.
