AK Specialty Vehicles' Command 21 System Adds DNE Technologies' TAC Multiservice Access Concentrator to Portfolio

AK Specialty Vehicles (AKSV) has added Multiservice Access Concentrators from Ultra Electronics-DNE Technologies (DNE) to its portfolio of mobile command centers. To enhance a customer’s ability to more effectively access Command and Control communication applications in a mobile command center environment, AK Specialty Vehicles is offering the DNE TAC Multiservice Access Concentrator. AKSV is currently in the midst of a 2004 US Road Tour, demonstrating the Command 21 LX Mobile Command Center which was most recently at the NGAUS show in Las Vegas.

AK Specialty Vehicles focuses on providing a broad range of high-quality, fully integrated mobile command vehicles that offer a 'best in breed' solution to assist in managing events requiring multi-agency coordination. By offering leading edge technology, such as DNE's TAC units, responders are assured that mobile communications are properly equipped to address the events at hand. These events can include natural disasters, large-scale events, and Homeland Security operations. AK Specialty Vehicles has created mobile command platforms for the Massachusetts State Police for use at the Democratic National Convention, FEMA, the Sheriff of Orange County, California and the State of Florida Emergency Management Agency, among others.

The Command 21 LX is a 21-foot Freightliner 2500 SHC Sprinter van that has been custom-converted to become a first responder type mobile emergency operations vehicle. The vehicle is designed to be a cost-effective mobile interoperable communications and command post to be used by police, government agencies, and other first responders to provide Command, Control, and Communications (C3) capability. It can be equipped with satellite, microwave, or UHF transmission equipment.

Ultra Electronics-DNE Technologies' TAC Multiservice Access Concentrator increases bandwidth efficiency, allowing simultaneous applications such as maximizing radio interoperability; access to Internet, electronic messaging, imaging and mapping; teleconferencing; secure voice transport; video; and connectivity to a Public Branch Exchange (PBX) for telephony support. A recent Homeland Security operational demonstration has shown how increased bandwidth capacity - as much as 50% - translates to a greatly improved flow of concurrent communications between the on-site responders and the command centers.

The TAC Multiservice Access Concentrator can aid with interoperability between disparate equipment and protocols used by various response agencies, including legacy equipment, and broadband networks. The low cost and small form factor make DNE's TAC unit a natural addition to the compact Command 21 System.

The Command 21 LX System tour, including the DNE TAC Multiservice Concentrator, will continue at various trade shows including CopsWest, October 5-6, Ontario CA; International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), November 5-10, Dallas, TX; and a number of focused demonstrations for Federal, State, and local agencies, and the DoD.
